So, we got this great idea to go see the Transiberian Orchestra at Phillips Arena last night. We LOVE their Christmas Music, "Wizards in Winter " is such an awesome song. So we thought surely it would be a couple of hours of amazing music, lights, FIRE! Well, there was music, and lights, and even some fire, BUT, well, lets just say it was a cross between Newsong and Meatloaf. I felt like I had been picked up and dropped into an eighties big hair band concert with a Christmas touch. Not to mention the weird monologue about an angel at a bar....
Hmmmm, moral of MY story is to get the CD or better yet, download your CHOICE of songs from itunes. Now if you ask Mike "It was aweeesoommme"

Heh heh heh. We went to see that show with the Frazers a few years back when we were both pregnant. Gaines loved it, of course. Do you think it negatively affected our kids in any way? ;-)

HAHA, well, yours was a little more "positive" than mine. I will say, the songs we knew, they were pretty awesome!!!
Maybe you are one of those radio hit music fans. Being that this band was previously a hard rock band starting back in the early 8's that is where their roots are. They were called Savatage if you had known them a little better before going you'd know what to expect. They started out as a pure metal band, in the late 80's they added in some orchestra effects and continually developed into the band they are today. The leader of the band's brother was the original guitarist but tragically died some years back. Moral to the story: Learn more than one song before you go getting expectations,there is more to music than the radio. You are apparently not a rock fan so maybe you need to follow traditional X-mas tunes. I along with many other open minded fans appreciate the open mindedness of this band.
Kirk, this message is for you. Maybe you are one of those "stuck in the eighties fans?" Hmmmm. I thought so. And you know what? That is ok. I can tell you this much, I am not one of "those radio hit fans" as you call them. Just trust me there. What I really do love about the Transiberian Orchestra is their awesome energy. I love their pumped up, out of control Christmas music. I did NOT like their weird, psuedo-Christian monolgue, and angel on earth montage. That's ok too. Because if they put it out there, they are open to criticism, right? After the concert, I actually looked up Savatage, and was pretty impressed at the wide range of creativity from 80's metal to "Hark the Herald Angels Sing". I probably could have mentioned that in the blog. I also could have mentioned that I grew up listening to 70's and 80's rock. From Clapton to Hendrix to Led Zeplin, Metallica, Van Halen and my favorite, Guns N Roses. But that's ok too. I guess moral of the story is, I should do more homework before I agree to go to a show with my hubby ( who LOVED it by the way) And you show know a blogger better before you criticize her publicly.
